Welcome to «Zürich liest»
From October 26th to 30th, the international literary festival «Zürich liest'16» (Reading Zurich) is taking place in the cities of Zurich and Winterthur and their surroundings. With 150 literary events and more than 200 writers from Switzerland, Germany, Europe and overseas, «Zürich liest» is a well-known literary festival in the German-speaking world. The festival is supported by the municipalities of Zurich and Winterthur and other public and private partners. «Zürich liest» is a project of the Zurich booksellers and editors association (www.zbvv.ch).
The festival was held for the first time in October 2011, with more than 15'000 visitors attending the readings and discussions in theatres, bookshops, publishing houses, restaurants, etc. The hosts included major cultural venues such as Schauspielhaus, Kaufleuten, Literaturhaus and Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich and Casinotheater in Winterthur.
Highlights of the 2011 to 2015 festivals were the readings of international famous writers such as J.M. Coetzee, Rafik Schami, Ilija Trojanow, Charles Lewinsky, Paul Auster, Olga Grjasnowa, Franz Hohler, Joy Fielding, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Wilhelm Genazino, Liao Yiwu, Donna Leon, Alain Mabanckou, Nuruddin Farah, Nora Gomringer, Arnon Gruenberg as well as many Swiss authors, numerous spoken-word shows with Swiss and German performers and the legendary literary tramway.
